“Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will reward each one of us for the good we do, whether we are slaves or free.” Ephesians 6:7-8 NLT

I must admit, at times I can have strong personal opinions on what is deemed as fair or unfair. And if I’m not careful, it can turn into a prideful and self-righteous attitude that is condescending toward others. The truth is we can all evaluate fairness in different ways. In two extreme examples, I read that in five states, children may now sue their parents for allowing them to be born. In another state, a doctor could be sued for bungling a murder. It shows the kind of society we live in when we take matters into our own hands or when we emphasize the importance of fairness over God’s justice, mercy and grace.

Closer to home, we can compare the effort or involvement of our jobs with the compensation we receive and conclude it as unequitable. Thankfully Paul reminds us that God has a compensating reward that is reserved for those who please Him while we serve our earthly masters. And it didn’t matter if people were “slaves,” who did not directly benefit from any of their services. Or if others were overworked and underpaid. Or for those who lived in poverty while others lived in luxury. On a side note, someone in my small group mentioned, “Ever noticed that we tend to compare ourselves with those who have more rather than those who have less?” So true! Let’s do as Paul recommends, which is to work with enthusiasm, to do all things as unto the Lord rather than for the imperfect establishments we are a part of. Let’s focus on doing good and pleasing God for not only will we be ultimately rewarded, but He promises to work all things out on our behalf for those who love Him and are called according to His purposes (Romans 8:28). May we never think of life as unfair when our inheritance in Christ is far more than what this world could ever offer.

FEBRUARY 24TH

19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 1:19-20)

A few Sundays ago at the ministry center, our watch service was about to begin and I realized nothing was appearing on screen. I went through all the checks needed; the laptop was on and connected, the HDMI wire connections were fine, the TV was on but it still wasn’t picking up any signal. I was dumbfounded until I finally figured out that the HDMI splitter box, which connects my laptop to the different TV screens, was not plugged in and powered on.

We live in an electronic age where power is of such importance. As individuals, we may be “turned on” or functioning normally, but if the Holy Spirit’s power is not infused into or awakened within us, we fall short of a fruitful life. Jesus told His disciples in Acts 1:4, “Don't leave Jerusalem yet. Wait here for the Father to give you the Holy Spirit, just as I told you he has promised to do.” In other words before doing any ministry, to wait for His power (Acts 1:8) to fall upon us; the One who guides us into all truth, the One who allows us to operate in our gifting, and the One who empowers us to live victoriously.

God gives us His “incomparably great power” through His Spirit, the same power which raised Jesus from the dead. Wow, imagine that? There is no atomic source on earth that can produce what God has accomplished after 3 days in the tomb. In our 1820 group last night, we were talking about how Defibrillator’s may be able to jump start a person’s heart right after it stopped, but not after a few days had passed. No human technology has been able to achieve the results God has with the same power living and moving in us.

Any time you feel discouraged, doubtful or defeated, remember the power of God in your life. The Devil has no grip on whom God has already taken hold of. Make sure you are “plugged in” and “switched on” to His unlimited power for we are not just called to operate naturally, but to live our lives out supernaturally.
