'The place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek, so that many people could read it. Then the leading priests objected and said to Pilate, “Change it from ‘The King of the Jews’ to ‘He said, I am King of the Jews.’”' John 19:20-21 Ever wonder if God is still for you when everything seems to be against you? Ever feel like God is not in charge of your circumstances when it’s going awry and awful? If I imagine myself as Jesus’ disciple witnessing Him carry that heavy cross, trudging along toward impending death, and being nailed to the cross in excruciating pain, I might have missed the clues left by our Father who was still working behind the scenes. For example, even as Jesus hung on that tree, His identity was never compromised. It was customary the condemned wear a placard giving the name and nature of his crime. Jesus' only crime was to be the King of the Jews, where He also humbly identified with lowly Nazareth. Pilate thought he had the power to dictate Jesus’ destiny but didn’t realize he was being used as God’s pawn in the process. The Pharisees reacted toward Pilate’s order to “crucify your king” saying “We have no king but Caesar.” They were adamant against associating with Jesus in anyway. So they pleaded with Pilate to change his title to “He said, I am the King of the Jews.” How ridiculous! Although the war at the cross was for the sins of the world, the battle was against religion, where Jesus spoke out so openly. The Pharisees promoted religion because they could use its laws to condemn and control others. However, we know “… the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” (2 Corinthians 3:6) And although God’s laws were written to expose sin, they were inept in bringing about a redeemed life. The Pharisees were only concerned with regulation and containment to please their selfish agendas. Jesus death and resurrection would usher in the age of personal relationship with the Father through the Holy Spirit, and bring life to all who believe. Not only was Jesus the King of the Jews, that title above His head was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek, signifying He came to give life and establish relationship for all peoples. All this shows the Father was in control all along, preserving Jesus’ authority, identity and purpose. So no matter what you go through in life, or where the journey takes you, be clear on your identity and commission. And as I recently spoke on, “Be assured of your alignment and aware of your assignment.”

  • Easter Service 2021

Mahalo to everyone who came out to our Easter service at Kipapa Park! It was so nice to see you all in person. Some of you we haven't seen in over a year! We hope you had a nice time celebrating Jesus and fellowshipping with one another. Special thanks to our worship team, hula dancers, ushers, temperature checkers, food distributors, and everyone who lent a helping hand. We couldn't have done it without you. We also thank those who joined us online and apologize for the technical difficulties we experienced with the livestream. We appreciate your patience as we continue to learn and make improvements. A replay has been posted on our website if you would like to re-watch any parts of the service. We will continue live services at our ministry center for our 9am Sunday services, and plan to hold an outdoor service once a month or so for those of you who are not ready to attend gatherings. Please be sure you are subscribed to our newsletter so you'll be aware of the latest schedule. And as always, your comments & suggestions are always welcome. Have a fantastic week!

  • Don't Fumble Being Humble

4 So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. (Matthew 18:4) A while back, I had a full-day stopover in Seoul, South Korea. It was on January 1st and although everything was closed, the largest church in the world, Yoido Full Gospel Church, held Sunday services where I had the privilege of attending. Following after was their newcomers lunch up on the 10th floor of a tall office building where I learned that one of the core values their senior pastor, Dr. Yonggi Cho held, was his dependence on prayer. Many have tried to be like the largest church in the world. They copy the method or structure, but miss the “why” behind it. Dr. Cho’s principle was that the Holy Spirit was the senior pastor and he was the associate, which led him to lean heavily on prayer. If we strive to be significant in God’s Kingdom, we need to learn to take a back seat. Servanthood, being humble like a little child, is the pathway to greatness in God’s Kingdom as Jesus points out in verse 4. So why a little child? 1) Little children are trusting – they lean on their parents and trust without questioning. 2) Little children are always in awe – when they receive a gift, it seems they are so excited and thankful for it. 3) Little children are willing to learn – They ask many questions and don’t think they know it all. They are teachable. 4) Little children forgive quickly – When parents ask, “Would you please forgive daddy or mommy for that mistake?” You usually get a hug or a willing nod from them after. 5) Little children have servant hearts – Ever notice kids are always willing to help out? 6) Little children are giving – When we teach them to share, they are so willing to. They are eager to help others out as well. Humility is the key to our walk with Christ. The more we surrender and become childlike, the more we excel in His Kingdom. Humility keeps others in mind and protects their interest, while pride elevates self above all. Someone said this, “Pride is like bad breath – everyone can smell it but you.” On the other hand, I think a humble person has a graciousness that everyone recognizes but themselves. It's like the quote, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less.”
