This past Sunday we streamed our services live on YouTube for the first time! We hope to continue this convenience going forward to give our members another way to enjoy worship and sermons, especially in light of current health concerns.
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR
March 13, 2020
Greetings to the Saints of HCM!
So, another term has entered our American lexicon - “social distancing”. Experts recommend that when we meet in large numbers, we should keep a distance of 3-6 feet from each other (When you come on Sunday you will notice that we have spaced our chairs further apart). Because we’re concerned for each other's safety (especially our seniors and those with pre-existing health conditions) we are enacting a temporary moratorium on our greeting time (i.e. handshakes and hugs).
You may be thinking, “But I'm not sick! I wanna continue to hug!” I get it, but there may come a time when we’re infected - but not feeling the effects. At that point we’d be carriers of the virus and unknowingly spreading the virus to others through physical contact.
This may sound a bit drastic and premature since, as of this week, there are still only 2 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Hawaii. But all signs lead to the fact that we’ll experience it here in Hawaii - and Mililani - to a greater degree….so Hope Chapel Mililani just wants be ahead of it.
I know this is going to be awkward – especially for those of us who are huggers. But I’d rather it be awkward that we want to hug but can't - then it be awkward because we’re worried or anxious that someone will hug us. We don't want you to be concerned about coming together as the body of Christ. Now, we have a couple of options: We can do the elbow bump, shaka, we can wave or bow.
We’re also going to be more diligent in disinfecting our common areas - especially our nursery and children's church.
Please understand that we are not fearful. God doesn’t want his people to react in fear, He expects us to calmly respond to this threat with sensitivity and wisdom.
Let’s all claim the promises of Ps. 91:
“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
He is my God, and I trust him. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with his feathers.
He will shelter you with his wings.
His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day.
Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you.”
See you this Sunday!!!
Your faithful servant,
